The trees were deliveredto the K’ómoks Reserve this month as work continued on the hospital site preparation. The trees will be used in traditional building projects. Important milestone reached through release of RFP The $600 million North Island Hospitals Project took a major step forward this month with the release of the Request for Proposals(RFP) to the three consortiums vying to design, build, finance andmaintain new hospitals in the Comox Valley and Campbell River.The RFP includes a very complex set of documents laying outthe expected requirements for the NIHP. The proponents will haveuntil later this year to develop proposals outlining their plans to de-sign, build, finance and maintain the $344 million, 153-bed ComoxValley Hospital and the $266 million, 95-bed Campbell River Hospitalover the 30-year lifetime of the project. Proposals will be evaluatedusing multiple criteria such as price, qualifications, experience andthe proposed solutions.Plans call for the successful proponent to be selected by January2014. Construction of the two hospitals will begin early next year withcompletion slated for Fall 2017.

The Comox Valley eventtakes place the following day in Courtenay atthe Best Western, Westerly Hotel and Con-vention Centre.Registration for both events will takeplace through the Campbell River Major Pro-jects Portal: cr.majorprojects/projects/nihp beginning on May 13, 2013. Work seen here is making way for two modular trailers on the north-east corner of the property. Meanwhile, work is underway on two temporary parking lots west of Yucalta Lodge. Work still to come includes demolition of part of the Sunshine Wellness Centre and construction of a temporary ambulance entrance to access Emergency during hospital construction.Want to know more about the NIHP?
